Free RV Navigation: Highway Miles RV Mode and Street View

Route for your RV profile, preview campground entrances, and plan fuel, rest and repair stops.

Robert Phillips

Highway Miles offers free RV navigation for iPhone and Android. Set your RV profile, plan useful stops and preview campground approaches with Google Street View before you arrive.

Highway Miles includes an RV mode. Select RV mode, enter your RV profile, and Highway Miles uses that information when calculating your route. Find fuel stations, rest stops and repair facilities along the way, and use Google Street View to inspect available imagery of a campground or RV park approach before choosing where to stay.

For owners looking for a free RV GPS app for iPhone or Android, Highway Miles brings vehicle-profile navigation and travel-day planning into the same app. The phone-navigation plan is free to use and supported by advertising, with no subscription required.

Free RV navigation with no subscription required

Highway Miles makes RV-profile routing available through its free, ad-supported phone-navigation plan. You can plan your route and service stops without a required navigation subscription. The optional Ad-Free plan removes in-app advertising.

Use Google Street View before choosing a campground or RV site

A campground can look ideal in a listing and still raise questions about the drive in. Where is the entrance? Which direction should you approach from? Does the last turn look awkward for your motorhome or trailer?

Make Google Street View part of your site-selection process. Open the location in Highway Miles and use its Street View option to review available street-level imagery. This gives you another way to investigate the approach before booking a stay or adding the destination to your trip.

  • Find the entrance: Compare the driveway and visible signs with the campground's arrival instructions. The office address and recommended RV entrance may differ.

  • Study the approach: Look at the road leading to the property, the last intersection and the direction of the entrance turn.

  • Spot questions worth asking: Visible gates, trees, overhead structures, steep driveway transitions or tight-looking turns can help you decide what to confirm with the park.

  • Look inside where coverage exists: Some locations have imagery beyond the public road. Use it to understand the layout, without assuming every campsite is visible.

Street View is especially useful when comparing two RV parks. If one entrance raises concerns, ask that park for its recommended approach for your exact rig before deciding. Satellite view can add an overhead perspective on the property layout; Street View adds the ground-level context.

Confirm the individual campsite directly with the campground. Ask about your total vehicle length, pull-through or back-in access, room for slide-outs, and any restrictions affecting the approach. Street View is imagery, not a live camera or a clearance measurement. Coverage and capture dates vary, and it may not show the campsite you are considering.

Use Google's imagery for a visual preview, then return to Highway Miles for your RV-profile route. Previewing a destination in Google Street View does not make ordinary car directions suitable for an RV.

How to set up Highway Miles RV mode

An RV navigation app needs information about the vehicle you are actually driving. A motorhome and a tow vehicle pulling a travel trailer or fifth wheel can have very different dimensions and maneuvering needs.

  1. Select RV mode in Highway Miles.

  2. Enter your RV profile. Complete the available vehicle fields accurately, using your actual travel configuration. Check dimensions such as height and length, and the weight information requested by the app.

  3. Choose your destination and planned stops. Check the address and the arrival instructions for the campground, RV park or other destination.

  4. Review the calculated route. Inspect the approach and any available restriction information before starting navigation.

Know your rig's real dimensions, including rooftop equipment and your towing configuration where relevant. Update the profile when your setup changes. Highway Miles uses the profile to inform routing; no navigation app can guarantee that every restriction or temporary road change is represented. Follow posted signs and current conditions.

Plan fuel stations, rest stops and repair facilities along your RV route

A useful RV route planner helps you think beyond the final destination. Highway Miles lets you find service locations and work them into your travel day.

Fuel stops for your RV trip

Find fuel stations along the route and inspect the location before committing to a stop. Use available Street View imagery to examine the entrance, pump layout and exit. Confirm your required fuel type and any access concerns directly; a listed station or a visible canopy is not proof that your RV will fit.

Rest areas and planned breaks

Look for rest stops before you need a break. Planning them into the trip helps you divide a longer drive into manageable legs. Check posted parking rules when you arrive; a rest-area listing does not establish permission for an overnight stay or confirm that a space is available.

Repair facilities when plans change

Find nearby repair facilities when you need service, then call to confirm they handle your RV, chassis, trailer or specific problem. A repair listing is a starting point for finding help, rather than a promise of RV specialization or immediate availability.

Comparing RV navigation: Highway Miles, RV LIFE, Garmin, CoPilot and Sygic

If you are researching the best RV GPS app, compare the features you will use, what they cost and how the planning workflow fits your trip. These products take different approaches:

Highway Miles RV mode: a free phone-navigation starting point

Highway Miles combines RV-profile routing, fuel and rest stops, repair locations, and access to Google Street View for arrival preparation. Its free, ad-supported phone plan lets you try the workflow without a required subscription or separate GPS device.

RV LIFE Pro and Trip Wizard

RV LIFE Pro offers an RV planning ecosystem with campground information, trip planning and RV navigation. Its documentation places RV Safe GPS and Trip Planner access behind an active Pro subscription. Consider it if you want its wider collection of RV planning tools.

Garmin RV GPS

Garmin's RV 795 is dedicated navigation hardware with advertised routing for the size and weight of the rig. A separate device may suit owners who want a dedicated navigation display. Highway Miles offers a phone-based starting point without buying another navigator.

CoPilot GPS

The CoPilot GPS app listing describes RV-size-based directions, offline maps, campgrounds and rest areas. Check its supported RV dimensions and regional availability against your own setup when comparing RV navigation apps.

Sygic Caravan Premium

Sygic Caravan Premium includes vehicle-dimension routing, offline maps, caravan-related places and multi-stop planning. Sygic describes a one-time paid license with three years of map updates; some features are separate purchases. It is another option for owners researching motorhome or camper navigation.

For RV owners whose priority is free phone navigation, RV-profile routing and a useful preview of the next stop, Highway Miles is a practical first choice. Select RV mode, enter your vehicle details, and review a familiar trip to learn the workflow before a longer journey.

Questions about RV GPS and campground arrival planning

Does Highway Miles have an RV mode?

Yes. Select RV mode and enter your RV profile. Highway Miles uses that information when calculating your route and provides fuel, rest-stop and repair-location information for planning the trip.

Is Highway Miles a free RV navigation app?

The Highway Miles phone-navigation plan is free to use and supported by advertising. No subscription is required. An optional Ad-Free plan is available for owners who prefer to remove in-app advertising.

Can I use Google Street View to choose an RV campsite?

Use it to investigate available views of a campground's entrance and approach roads. Where coverage extends inside, it may provide more context. Confirm the exact campsite's dimensions, access and suitability with the campground before booking.

Can Highway Miles help me find RV fuel stops and repairs?

You can find fuel stations, rest stops and repair facilities and include useful stops in your trip. Verify fuel type, vehicle access, opening hours and RV service capability with the location when those details matter.

Does downloading maps mean all RV navigation works offline?

No. Downloaded maps provide map coverage, but route calculation, rerouting, Street View and live services may require an internet connection. Review the trip and your destination before entering an area with weak service.
