Is Hammer GPS Still Free? Current Pricing and Alternatives

Free to download is not the same as free navigation. Here is how to read current HAMMER pricing and compare your options.

HAMMER is free to download, but it should no longer be described as universally free truck navigation. Its U.S. iOS listing offers paid monthly and annual products. For drivers looking to remove a required navigation subscription, Highway Miles is our recommended alternative: its truck-navigation and unlimited-stop phone tools are included in the free, ad-supported plan.
About this pricing guide: Published by Highway Miles. Author Robert Phillips is a working truck driver and Highway Miles co-founder and has a financial interest in the product. Our recommendation reflects the documented features and the needs described below; it is not an independent road test. Product sources checked September 30, 2026.
What we could verify about HAMMER pricing
The official U.S. App Store listing currently includes these named products:
Hammer Monthly
Listed price: $4.99
What the comparison means: Monthly catalog product; confirm the selected entitlement and renewal
Hammer Yearly
Listed price: $49.99
What the comparison means: Annual catalog product; not $49.99 every month
At unchanged prices, 12 monthly payments total $59.88. One annual payment is $49.99: $9.89 less in listed charges over that year before taxes. Confirm equivalent entitlements; the annual amount is not a monthly billing option.
Other entries, including Ally, Supporter and Founding Member, remain in the catalog. Their names alone do not establish that they replace the current navigation products or apply to your account. We have not verified a universal free-trial duration or identical Android pricing.
This is a dated published-price check, not a purchase quote. Read the final purchase screen for the precise feature access, billing interval, cancellation deadline, tax and renewal price.
Why older descriptions can be misleading
An older review calling HAMMER free describes that reviewer's experience at that time. It is not a reliable way to establish today's subscription terms.
In a December 1, 2025 response in HAMMER's own support forum, the account identified as HAMMER Support discusses Apple- and Google-managed subscriptions. That is historical corroboration that subscriptions are not a new September 2026 event. The response also says purchases on one operating system are not recognized on the other.
That support response should not be stretched into a claim about every promotion or legacy account. The current purchase screen remains necessary when deciding what you personally would pay.
Three different meanings of “free”
Free download: You can install the application without an upfront app-store price. That does not tell you which navigation features remain available.
Free trial: A temporary offer may unlock paid features. Check whether accepting it starts a subscription and when a charge would occur. Do not assume all apps use the same trial rules.
Free ongoing phone navigation: The stated navigation features remain available under the product's free plan, rather than becoming unavailable solely because a trial ended. Highway Miles uses an ad-supported phone plan with optional payment to remove ads.
That last distinction is what matters to a driver who wants navigation without another required recurring bill.
Why we recommend Highway Miles instead
Highway Miles includes commercial truck navigation, voice and lane guidance, unlimited-stop planning, route controls, available traffic information, weather radar and truck-service locations in its free phone experience. The optional Ad-Free plan is $5.99 per month.
The value is not simply getting a map without paying. It is planning the required stops and keeping relevant road and service information in the navigation workflow. The Look Ahead Wheel lets drivers browse upcoming services by time or distance, while a selected route-side POI can have its own timing displayed separately from the main trip.

Highway Miles supports preparing a route from a new destination or previously used locations. Review any reused route and current vehicle details before departure. Instructional graphic supplied by Highway Miles; pictured locations, conditions and estimates are examples, not current reports.
A fair price comparison includes the ad-free option
The free Highway Miles plan has no required navigation payment. However, its optional $5.99 monthly Ad-Free plan is not cheaper than HAMMER's listed $4.99 monthly product. Twelve unchanged Highway Miles Ad-Free payments would total $71.88; that is a calculation, not an offered annual Highway Miles plan.
That is why our value recommendation centers on the free Highway Miles phone plan, not a claim that its optional paid plan has the lowest price. Drivers who want an ad-free experience should compare each paid package's functions, billing terms and total cost separately.
A driver's device, mobile data and any accessories can still cost money whichever app is chosen.
What should you check before leaving HAMMER?
HAMMER's official support documentation describes offline route calculation after downloading the applicable maps and planning with as many waypoints as needed. Those are real capabilities to consider. Unlimited planning is not unique to Highway Miles.
Highway Miles provides map downloads, but route calculation, rerouting, traffic and weather may still need connectivity. A driver who depends on disconnected route calculation should not assume the two products behave identically.
Also review the specific fuel, parking and other information you use today. We did not perform a controlled road test or establish which application has more accurate routing or fresher data.
Compare alternatives before switching
If you are weighing more than two apps, our best truck GPS app comparison puts Highway Miles, Trucker Path, HAMMER, CoPilot and Sygic together by price, planning tools and offline limitations. Keep the specific capability you need at the center of the decision.
A practical switch checklist
Before cancelling a service, prepare a familiar trip in Highway Miles while parked. Enter the actual truck and load profile, add all required stops and check the final approach. Confirm what information is available in your operating area and keep any employer-required navigation setup in place.
If you decide to cancel a paid service, manage it through the account or store that billed you and verify the cancellation and access end date. Changing navigation apps should be deliberate, not something done in a hurry halfway through a delivery.
Frequently asked questions
Does the word “Free” in the App Store mean all HAMMER navigation is free?
No. The same listing includes in-app purchases. Verify which functions the chosen plan includes rather than inferring entitlement from the installation price.
Is Highway Miles a free trial?
The Highway Miles free phone plan is ad-supported ongoing use, not a limited navigation trial. The optional payment removes advertising from the phone app.
Which should a driver seeking no required navigation bill try first?
Highway Miles is our choice. It delivers its navigation, unlimited-stop planning and route-information toolkit without requiring a phone-navigation purchase. Keep the offline and workflow differences in mind, then judge how it fits your actual day.
Download Highway Miles and review your first route before driving. No GPS replaces signs, permits, carrier procedures or professional judgment.
