Trucker Path Alternatives: Free and Paid Truck GPS Compared

Considering a switch? Compare navigation costs, planning tools and the capabilities you may want to keep.

Highway Miles is our recommended Trucker Path alternative for drivers who want truck-profile navigation, unlimited-stop planning and useful route information without a required phone-navigation subscription. The strongest reason to switch is not that every competing feature is missing. It is that the tools you need may already be included at $0.

About this comparison: Published by Highway Miles. Author Robert Phillips is a working truck driver and Highway Miles co-founder and has a financial interest in the product. Our recommendation reflects the documented features and the needs described below; it is not an independent road test. Product sources checked September 30, 2026.

Which alternative fits your reason for switching?

  • No required phone-navigation subscription: start by evaluating Highway Miles' free, ad-supported routing and unlimited-stop workflow.

  • Offline route calculation: examine HAMMER, CoPilot or Sygic's documented offline functions and the package offered on your device.

  • Parking and trip-management information: identify which Trucker Path tools you depend on before replacing them. Changing navigation apps does not require abandoning a useful free service.

For the wider software shortlist, compare the best truck GPS apps by features, cost and connectivity.

Start with the reason you want to switch

A driver looking to reduce an app bill is making a different decision from a dispatcher looking for fleet integration. Before comparing names, write down the functions you actually use: navigation, delivery-stop planning, parking information, fuel decisions and connectivity away from cell coverage.

Then divide them into must-haves and nice-to-haves. A cheaper plan is not a saving if it removes an essential capability. Equally, a larger paid toolkit is not automatically better value if you rarely use its extras.

For a navigation-first workday, our free truck GPS phone plan is the starting point we recommend.

What is free in Trucker Path—and what requires a plan?

Trucker Path's official subscription guide, last updated April 21, 2025, places truck routing and spoken navigation in Gold and Diamond. It lists unlimited stops, HOS optimization and fuel optimization in Diamond. Truck-stop information and community parking updates are available in its free version.

The guide lists Gold at $14.99 monthly or $149.99 annually, and Diamond at $29.99 monthly or $249.99 annually. These are published U.S. plan prices checked on our research date, not guaranteed checkout offers. Discounts, taxes, purchase channels and renewals can differ.

The practical distinction is important: switching navigation apps does not necessarily require abandoning every free Trucker Path tool.

The alternatives, with the tradeoffs kept visible

This is a selected comparison, not an exhaustive market ranking. Shared feature names do not establish equal accuracy, coverage or reliability.

Highway Miles: our first choice for navigation at $0

The free, ad-supported phone app includes truck-profile routing, voice and lane guidance, unlimited stops, route optimization, available traffic information, live weather radar, low-bridge awareness and truck-service locations. The optional $5.99/month Ad-Free plan removes advertising from the phone experience; payment is not required to unlock those phone-navigation tools.

The truck route planner lets a driver build the working day rather than choose a paid tier to accommodate its stops. The Look Ahead Wheel presents upcoming services by time or distance. These are concrete reasons behind our recommendation, not a claim that price proves routing quality.

TruckMap: another free-navigation option

TruckMap's U.S. App Store listing also advertises free truck-profile routing and spoken directions. Highway Miles is not the only app with a free offering.

Our preference for Highway Miles rests on its documented combination of unlimited-stop planning, Look Ahead information and integrated weather radar. This research does not establish that TruckMap lacks every comparable tool; compare the actual workflow on your device before deciding.

HAMMER: paid navigation with documented offline capability

The U.S. iOS catalog lists Hammer Monthly at $4.99 and Hammer Yearly at $49.99. HAMMER's support guide describes calculating routes and navigating without data after the necessary maps are downloaded, as well as planning with as many waypoints as needed.

Our choice remains Highway Miles when avoiding a required navigation payment is the objective. The offline difference deserves separate consideration rather than being hidden in a price comparison.

CoPilot GPS: a paid truck-specific package

CoPilot's individual-driver App Store listing describes PC*MILER truck routing, offline navigation and a 14-day trial. It lists multiple truck subscription products, including $9.99 for one month and $119.99 for one year; another monthly catalog entry is $8.99. The catalog does not explain every account's eligibility, so check the package offered to you.

We recommend Highway Miles first for its $0 phone-navigation toolkit. Identify the capability that justifies a paid package before buying it, and distinguish individual-app features from separately sold enterprise fleet services.

Sygic Truck: a different paid-license model

Sygic documents a one-time Truck Premium license with three years of map updates; additional updates after that require another purchase. Live traffic is a separate add-on under that package. Its U.S. App Store catalog also contains subscription products. Check which purchase model and region you are actually selecting.

Highway Miles is our recommendation for no required payment for phone navigation. A one-time license is a different payment model from a recurring subscription, so compare its upfront price, included updates and optional services separately.

Do not confuse locations with live availability

A parking POI tells you where a location is. It does not guarantee an empty space when you arrive. Likewise, Highway Miles' weigh-station locations do not promise live open/closed status or bypass permission.

Trucker Path's published parking and weigh-station prediction tools are a meaningful difference. Retain any service you rely on until you have checked what the replacement actually provides.

Check connectivity before replacing your existing setup

Highway Miles supports offline map downloads, but new route calculation, rerouting and live services may still require data. Downloaded maps are not a promise of complete offline navigation.

Review this before work in low-coverage areas. Our value recommendation does not override a mandatory offline requirement, an employer's approved navigation system or a permit route.

Weather radar is part of Highway Miles phone navigation. Weather information requires connectivity and is not a guarantee of conditions at arrival. Instructional graphic supplied by Highway Miles; pictured locations, conditions and estimates are examples, not current reports.

Make the switch around a real workday

While parked, enter your actual vehicle and load details, build a familiar trip and review the full approach to each delivery. Check the required stop order, the services you expect to use and the information shown for your selected POI. Do not invent intentional wrong turns to test rerouting on public roads.

Keep the tools that solve a real problem. Compare the bill only after confirming the workflow.

Our recommendation

Start with Highway Miles. For the driver whose priorities are truck navigation, flexible stop planning, route-ahead services and weather without another required phone-navigation bill, it is our better-value choice. Additional paid tools should earn their place by meeting a specific need—not by making basic navigation available in the first place.
